The Time of flight camera module is used to measure depth or distance, and is composed of one or more laser emitters plus a ccd or cmos sensor.
The current depth camera has TOF, structured light, laser scanning and so on. Mainly used in robots, interactive games and other applications. Most of them refer to the TOF camera, TOF is short for Time of flight, literal translation of the meaning of flight time. The so-called time-of-flight 3D imaging method is to continuously send light pulses to the target, and then use the sensor to receive the light returned from the object, and get the distance of the target object by detecting the flight (round trip) time of the light pulse. At present, the mainstream TOF camera manufacturers include PMD, MESA, Optrima, Microsoft and other companies, among which MESA is used in the field of scientific research, and the camera is compact, and PMD is the only TOF camera that can be used indoors and outdoors, and can have a variety of detection distances, which can be used in scientific research, industry and other occasions. The Optrima, Microsoft (not really TOF technology yet) cameras are mainly for home, entertainment applications.
