Sony IMX485 12MP COMS Camera Image Sensor

Sony IMX458 (12MP) is a camera image sensor for smartphones, it has been widely used in many famous smartphones. Now Sony IMX458 adopts a new PLCC package design to fit the SoC of Hi3559V100. In addition to 4k30fps resolution, the action camera solution also supports slow motion (or high frame rate) shooting mode, it can shoot 1080p HD video at up to 60 frames per second. HiSilicon Hi3559V100 provides advanced H.265 image/frame compression technology to support 4K/30fps video encoding. By utilizing Linux and HiSilicon Lite OS dual-core operating systems, this action camera can boot up super fast and provide the most advanced data processing capabilities because it has built-in 17 1.25GHz and 7 800MHz dual-core processors.

Sony IMX485 is a 1/1.2 type 4K resolution back-illuminated CMOS image sensor. The ample pixel size of 2.9 microns squared, coupled with the latest pixel technology for low noise functionality, improves low-light performance, making this sensor ideal for high-end 4K security cameras. This image sensor is ideal for security cameras in a variety of surveillance applications, such as anti-theft, disaster alarms, traffic monitoring systems or commercial complexes.

IMX485 Camera Image Sensor FAQ

1. What is IMX485?

IMX485 is a CMOS solid-state image sensor developed by Sony, specially designed for color cameras. It has a diagonal size of 12.86mm, a square pixel array, and 8.42 million effective pixels. The IMX485LQJ model uses Sony's unique back-illuminated pixel technology "STARVIS", which has the advantages of high sensitivity, low dark current and no stripes, and is suitable for a variety of application scenarios with high-quality imaging requirements.

2. What are the main features of IMX485?

The main features of IMX485 include:

High sensitivity and low dark current: Thanks to the back-illuminated pixel technology, IMX485 performs well in low-light environments.

Multiple pixel reading modes: Supports full pixel scanning mode, horizontal/vertical 2/2 line merging mode, window cropping mode, and horizontal/vertical positive and negative reading mode to meet the needs of different application scenarios.

High frame rate reading capability: In full pixel scanning mode, it can achieve a reading rate of up to 60 frames per second with 12-bit color depth and up to 90 frames per second with 10-bit color depth.

High dynamic range (HDR) function: It has multiple exposure HDR and digital overlap HDR functions to improve image quality, especially in high contrast environments.

Synchronous sensor function: It can synchronize multiple sensors, suitable for complex applications that require multiple sensors to work together.

Variable speed shutter function: It has a variable speed shutter function with a resolution of 2H units, which can adjust the shutter speed according to different lighting conditions.

High-precision A/D converter: The internal integrated 10-bit/12-bit A/D converter provides high-quality image data.

CDS/PGA function: It has an adjustable gain range of 0dB to 72dB with a step size of 0.3dB, which further improves image quality.

3. What faults are prone to IMX485?

As a sophisticated image sensor, IMX485 may have relatively few faults, but may encounter the following problems:

Overheating problem: When working continuously for a long time or transmitting a large amount of data, the chip may overheat, resulting in performance degradation.

Connection problem: If the connection between IMX485 and the external circuit is not correct, such as the wiring of ports A and B is wrong, communication may fail.

Electromagnetic interference: Strong electromagnetic fields or electromagnetic wave interference may affect its normal operation.

Physical damage: Mechanical shock or vibration may cause damage to the internal structure.

4. How to solve the fault of IMX485?

For the possible faults of IMX485, the following measures can be taken to solve them:

Overheating problem: Add a heat sink around the chip, or stop for a while to let the chip cool down.

Connection problem: Check the connection line to ensure that ports A and B are correctly connected. You can use tools such as an oscilloscope to detect whether the signal line is correctly connected.

Electromagnetic interference: Make sure that the working environment of IMX485 is away from strong electromagnetic fields or electromagnetic wave sources, or take appropriate shielding measures.

Physical damage: If you suspect that the fault is caused by physical damage, it is recommended to contact a professional maintenance personnel or after-sales service center for inspection and repair.
